Sasuntsi Davit (Monument of David of Sasun)

In the centre of the square, surrounded by the Railway Workers’ Cultural Centre, a cinema and residential blocks, stands the statue of David of Sasun, hero of the Armenian folk epic poem. The sculptor was Yervand Kochar. Much has been written about the statue of Sasuntsi Davit. Since the time of its unveiling in 1959, this has been a symbol of Armenia used on many postcards, literature and tourists posing for pictures.
